I think everyone reading this blog would agree that serving in the current US Military is cringe at best and suicidal at worst. However, knowing a few former sailors, I can easily image that in a SHTF scenario where qualified, competent crew were needed, the Navy would be able to re-staff from volunteering veterans quickly. The US Military is still a massive jobs-and-free-college program, after all; lot's of young men are still taking advantage.
