I somehow watched this in early 70s and concluded, a conclusion I have never had reason to change, that the Germans were the actual good guys. How? The arrogance of youth perhaps

I’m interested in listening to this series but it can’t be conducted in an air of unreality. To suggest Germany was not aggressively re-arming is preposterous - by 1938 military expenditure was close to 20% of GDP, closer to 30% with easily-convertible “civilian fixed investment” included. Full capital controls were in effect. Household consumption was locked near 40% of GDP.

At the present moment, it might be worthwhile to reassess Hitler’s aims and WW2 generally from a post-liberal perspective, especially since Hitler’s predictions about the coming world largely came true. What won’t be worthwhile is listening to Thomas whine about hypocrisies or impute shadowy conspiracies, pretending le peaceful wholesome chungus Hitl0r was some kind of passive and innocent bystander.
