The Agricultural Origins of the United States

The United States today is the world’s top agricultural exporter, sending roughly half of what it grows, raises and farms abroad for a world hungry for beef, pork, grain and other foodstuffs essential to life, health and nutrition. Although less than two percent of Americans actively farm for a living, the legacy of demographic settlement patterns, logistical, industrial and well as financial innovations in places like Chicago can all be traced to the great American harvest.
