There has never been a point in American history, or even pre-American history, where political violence - that is, violence consciously intended to effect a political end - has not been the preoccupation of the American people.

Some more blue collar-oriented Sixties radicals liked to point out that US had the most violent labor history of any country. Today, violent labor vs. capital conflict may seem like a puzzling anachronism, but it's probably still going on somewhere in the Third World/Global South.
