Death Cast Down from the Proud Tower – James LaFond

In small societies, such as hunter-gatherers, warrior tribes, or rural farmers, honor and reputation form a large part of one’s personal stock and trade. In larger civilizations, however, where power is measured in money and influence, honor becomes an inconvenience to accumulating wealth for the unscrupulous. The last honorable man – in a society of scoundrels – is at a distinct disadvantage. Today in America, or should we say the broader Western World, find ourselves at a point where the rewards for controlling others, and the punishments for those that resist that control, are straining the remnants of a once honorable tradition of truth, justice, and a spirit of independence. Tonight we are joined by James LaFond, author and anthropologist on the rise and fall of many such civilizations throughout history.
