Making Right Art for Girls
By Gnillik Yot
Recently, there has been a concerted effort to create and produce cultural products on the right that can be used to make people sympathetic to dissident causes. This effort is led by the smart folks over at im-1776 but includes smaller publishers too like Terror House Press. A lot of interesting art has been produced through these efforts, though everyone involved agrees this is only the beginning of the beginning. And yet, I have yet to see even one dissident author or publisher attempt to make art for girls. In this article I will attempt to make the case that no takeover of the arts by the right can be completely successful without at least a portion of those efforts being targeted towards girls. I'll provide several examples of how Generation Alpha and Zoomer women are being inspired to become leftists through pop culture. Let us analyze a few recent popular films and shows.
In Scream V, Sam (portrayed by Melissa Barrera) is the protagonist and a perfect example of the woke egalitarian woman protagonist that has become so popular in recent media. Daughter of Billy Loomis (the killer from the first Scream), Sam goes through life with a chip on her shoulder due to this knowledge. The killer of this film turned out to be her boyfriend (acted for by Jack Quaid) and his plan involves framing Sam for the murders as a way to honor the original Scream storylines. Canonically within the film, Jack Quaid's character is shown to be a Rian Johnson hater (though they just call him the "Knives Out guy" instead of using his name) and was opposed to the woke media calling him and other critics of Rian Johnson "toxic." Quaid's character proceeds to build a persona through the internet where he meets other so-called toxic fans who hate the media and Rian Johnson as much as he does, and they formulate a plan to get payback through the anonymous Ghostface identity. In short, Jack Quaid's character is shown to be a part of the online anti-SJW sphere, using anonymity and the pathos of the Ghostface to bring down the woke artists who have perverted the fandom he was a fan of. When Smantha discovers his plan, an all-out bloodbath ensues. It ends with Sam, her gray tank top drenched with the blood of her boyfriend, stabbing her knife seventeen times into Jack Quaid's character. He begs for mercy to no avail, and dies an agonizing, brutal death from the hands of his own girlfriend.
Scream 6 doubles down on this. Paranoid after the experience with her now murdered right-wing boyfriend, Sam is hostile to several characters and shows aggression, sometimes warranted and sometimes not. She tases a man in his testicles just because he was flirting with her younger sister, a younger sister who had been encouraging him to do so. She violently shoves a girl for splashing some water on her. She distrusts her new boyfriend (fearing perhaps that he might be secretly another anti-SJW type like her ex) until he proves himself to be a male feminist, respecting her wishes at the very end. And speaking of that end, she once again dons her gray tank top as she tortures the father of her former boyfriend to death, smiling with sadistic glee as she does so. And yes, we are supposed to cheer for her. We are even supposed to cheer as the ghost of Billy Loomis comes in and encourages her to continue hurting the defenseless old man, when she could have just turned him in to the police. In the final shot of the film, Sam lovingly caresses a Ghostface mask.
Next up on our list is Tim Burton's Wednesday. Starring Jenna Ortega as a teenaged Wednesday (this is the first time she is portrayed by a Latina rather than white actress), Wednesday is the most successful show Netflix has ever created. Yes, it even beat Stranger Things season 4 in terms of overall viewership. The opening scene of this show has the titular heroine dropping a swarm of piranha into a boy's swimming pool while the swimming team is practicing doing laps. Why? Because those same boys bullied her younger brother. “No one gets to torture my brother except me," she deadpans as she releases the fish. The boys attempt to swim to safety, but the leader, the alpha seventeen years old, fails to escape. His testicles are eaten by the piranha, in what fans are dubbing as one of the funniest moments of the show. Remember, all of these boys are underage. Whatever one thinks of chads bullying virgins in school, it is surprising to see how many people believe a boy should have his vitality destroyed for that sin. Even more shocking, Wednesday had attempted to KILL all of these boys in that scene, and it is only because they escaped that she failed. This is confirmed a scene later when Morticia asks her what she would feel like when people heard what she'd done. And she replies, “Terrible. Everyone will know I failed to get the job done." Still, she takes her destruction of the alpha boy's testicles as a victory, gloating to her psychologist that "men like him shouldn't be allowed to procreate," thus displaying her desire to destroy “bully” chads and alphas. Though, Wednesday doesn't hate all men in the show, she's no misandrist! The weak boy Eugene she takes under her wing, beating up any boy who would attempt to humiliate or bully him. He treats her like an equal, so she in turn protects him and loves him. But any boy who shows signs of sexist masculinity is to be stamped into the ground. Wednesday is openly woke. She repeatedly calls for the destruction of the patriarchy. In one scene shortly after beating up Eugene's bullies, she blows up a historical statue honoring a Puritan man names Joseph Crackstone. In another scene, she blasts people celebrating Pilgrim's Day as racist. And, similar to modern feminists, when she goes to the dance floor, she is the one who leads the dance while her boyfriend Tyler is expected to just stand there and ogle her.
The massive success of Wednesday is a massive victory for the left in the culture war. Conservatives often dismiss the importance of pop culture. This is to their own detriment. You can't go far on TikTok without seeing at least a dozen or so videos of girls imitating the Wednesday dance or praising different aspects of the show. My cousin's baby was watching this show and she's only four! Literally every family with a preteen girl knows about Wednesday, and chances are their daughter is a huge fan. I've also seen plenty of zoomer men “simp” for Wednesday. Of course, an army of Eugene's and Wednesday's is the path Generation Alpha and Generation Z are headed towards with heroes like Wednesday leading them. There is a lot of blather about "go woke, go broke," but that's only true for cringe films like Ghostbusters 2016 and dullards like Rings of Power. (Ghostbusters Afterlife is plenty woke, but no one attacks it because it's not cringe.) Wednesday is a show that explicitly bashes the patriarchy, calls America's founding racist, race swaps the characters, and promotes simps as the only cool kind of men. Very few anti-SJW channels have dared to criticize it because of how popular it is with the youth. Bounding Into Comics criticized it before it released, but quickly changed course after the ratings came in. Yellow Flash 2 has released a dozen videos praising Wednesday and saying, "this is the kind of girl power we need, not the woke Captain Marvel shit." Clownfish TV has also praised Wednesday. With it being the most successful show on Netflix, it comes as no surprise that Netflix is doubling down with a season 2, and you can expect this one to double down even more on the woke stuff. Jenna Ortega is on record as saying that Wednesday should be a lesbian “in a perfect world.” She is also on record implying Wednesday should just be asexual and forget about dating boys, only keeping the boys who treat her as an equal her friends. With her being promoted to writer this season, don't be surprised if she gets her way.
The triumph of Wednesday is probably the most significant left-wing victory in the culture wars of the past few years. Leftists know this too. One of the most popular Wednesday compilation channels is basically called Wednesday Feminism, a channel whose name implies aims to radicalize young men and women to the cause of feminism with cute clips about Jenna Ortega being used as the bait. Wednesday is actually making feminism cool again in the eyes of the young, after a decade of it being seen as cringe and associated with fat women and transgenders. Also trending on TikTok is Lola's Haunter, an upcoming YA horror novel about a girl who dresses like Wednesday and who despises Republicans with the heat of a thousand burning suns. Lola's Haunter is written by J. Neira, a BLM activist who is most known for turning One Angry Gamer woke after its anti-woke owner Billy was forced to leave the internet and sell the site. Now, J. Neira, similar to the Wednesday Feminist channel is riding off the success of Wednesday to make young people even more radical.
I'm just an observer. When I call Wednesday or Scream woke, I'm not insulting them. Leftists understand the value of putting their values in their art. Where is the dissident right answer to Wednesday? Where are the alternatives on the “art right's” side? As I wrote this article, Barbie is raking in piles of cash at the box office. This is another cultural product with girls in mind that is very openly all about crushing the patriarchy. I've seen some shrewd takes on Twitter by right-wing accounts trying to claim Barbie as secretly "based", but ask yourself whether the millions of little girls who see this movie are more likely to come away with a “based” interpretation of the film or the woke one that the filmmakers intended. You know if you're being honest with yourself, it's the latter, so again, this is a big victory for the left. If the dissident right wants to win, it needs to fund & create alternatives to Wednesday and Barbie.
At the beginning of this article, I said there wasn't anyone in this sphere writing for girls. Now that I think of it, there was one example of such a story targeted towards girls. Released through Terror House Press in 2022, the short story So Much For the Tolerant Left is a parody of YA literature that featured a progressive young woman who gets into a brutal brawl with a Republican girl after the Republican girl accidentally crashes into her at a dance party and uses the young Democrat's tank top straps to pull herself up. Sam Dexter of The American Sun reviewed it positively, saying:
"From a parody perspective, “So Much For The Tolerant Left” is a perfect mockery of YA literature. It pains me to call it literature, so it is YA content. The author nails the ridiculous framing of every heroine in the YA genre (always heroines) and cartoonish black and white moral juxtapositions. The great touch is the heroine not realizing they are an awful human being trapped by their progressive norms. There are lines at the beginning and end that state a full treatment is coming, so I do hope it happens. Will it? Who knows?"
I heard that So Much For the Tolerant Left is indeed getting a full book version. Let us hope that a dissident publisher doesn't turn it down merely because it caters to girls. Again, I'm just an observer – mind you, an observer who has had a front row seat in the group chats where the dissident art culture is being formed. The point of this article is not to put down all the interesting work for men that these guys have created. And yet, I truly believe it will be impossible for their efforts to reverse the left's dominion on culture without at least a few artists catering to girls.
